Before yesterday evenings storm chased them of the side

Before yesterday evening's storm chased them of the side off the hill in central Kabul, a group of young girls and their mother huddled around a tomb, ceremonially washing it before reading passages from a copy of the Quran. Keeping distance enough not to encroach on their space, I sat back, until three of the young girls approached, hands outstretched, offering a small, cardboard box of dates.
