During a break in the weather, a taxi driver waits for local workers by the entrance to Camp Marmal–where Germany military forces are stationed–outside the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif. Mazar was the first city to fall from the Taliban's grasp after the U.S.-led invasion in November 2001. The capitulation of the Taliban, however, was marred by alleged mass executions of POWs under the watch of Northern Alliance Commanders, one of whom–General Dostum–is now Afghanistan's Vice President.
