Farmers leave a Water Users Association meeting after electing a "Mirab" to take charge of irrigation canals in the district of Zargar in Takhar Province. The community-run initiative was developed by the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and is now entirely self sufficient. It's most recent success has been the construction of a new irrigation canal which has brought water to 400-500 hectares of new crops.
