I went for a drive along the Kabul River this afternoon after @nayela_w told me it was as full as she'd seen it all year - it's been raining for a week or two straight now. Still, under each footbridge that spans the now bulging, brown torrent clusters of opium addicts huddle under scarves on the shrinking, fetid banks. I saw a man carrying several bags full of naan. At the start of each footbridge, Massoud would call out and hand a disc to each of the men below.
