People wait in line for permission to cross the Euphrates

People wait in line for permission to cross the Euphrates River via the Bzebiz Bridge, in Anbar Governorate, Iraq, May 9, 2016. Almost exactly one year ago, the bridge was the scene of families fleeing the ISIS offensive and eventual capture of Ramadi, Anbar's capital city, which had a pre-war population of around a million people. The only other place to cross was to the north, near Fallujah, and already under ISIS control. These days people can be seen going in both directions and access is tightly controlled by Iraqi security forces, as it is still the main crossing between Anbar and Baghdad.
