There, beyond the exhaustion
of too many sleepless nights,
beyond the anticipation,
and impending sorrow;

look again,
tell me you don't see it, too.

I am all bravado as I meet your gaze-
unsettled by your gentle reserve,
speechless at sound of your voice.

I wondered just how much of every unspoken
thought was revealed in my smile,
even as the camera flashed,
and that moment became yours, forever.

Now, a thousand words
can't disguise the truth
written across my September face.
