Elders from districts across Helmand Province in Afghanis

Elders from districts across Helmand Province in Afghanistan's south gathered in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital today to voice concerns over the deteriorating security situation and problems with irrigation for farmers to members of the national parliament who travelled from Kabul for the meeting. The meeting is taking place in a time of increasing violence in the southern province. The provincial Governor's compound was attacked by a suicide bomber a little over a week ago, killing seven and wounding nearly 50, while the popular anti-Taliban police chief of Greshk, a hotly contested district outside Lashkar Gah was killed just days ago.
