The caretaker of "Bambino Cinema" stands near it's stairway. Cinemas in Karachi have seen better days. More than 250 cinemas operated with full houses during the 60s but slowly over time and harsh political scenarios, the cinema going culture took a big hit. However, in the last several years due to the showcasing of foreign films, cinema culture has made a big comeback. These old cinemas are a historical part of Karachi and many have been renovated by their owners because even though newer more well equipped ones have opened in the city, the general masses still come to these older cinemas because the ticket price is more affordable. This particular cinema was built in 1960 and is rumored to have been funded by the Gambino crime family in New York who had been interested in expanding their operations to South Asia at the time (hence the name "Bambino").
