Forced to flee their homes so quickly that some didn't even manage to bring shoes with them; a mother and child sit among a group of three families that have been given refuge in a house in Meimana, the provincial capital of Faryab, in northern Afghanistan. The three families share one single room that was offered to them by a relative after they were forced to flee their village in the district of Pashtun Kot, which has recently seen some of the worst of the province's spike in fighting between armed opposition groups (including Taliban, ISIS, al Qaeda and Uzbeki Islamists) and Afghan National Security Forces. This photo was taken during a visit with staff from the Norwegian Refugee Council in order to assess the families' emergency aid requirements.
