The 6PM Tolo News hour is filmed in a studio in one of Kabul's more heavily fortified districts, home also to the small bureaus of the handful of international media organisations that remain in the the #Afghan capital, as well as several Embassies. Tolo, the country's biggest TV network was established in 2003 and funded mostly by the U.S. Agency for International Development. As a result of this and dissatisfaction with the practices of Tolo's parent organisation, The Moby Group, the company often draws the ire of the #Taliban, whose threats are relentless. On one occasion recently, Moby Group assessed a threat as serious enough to evacuate all but essential staff from their #Kabul offices. The climate under which journalists work in #Afghanistan is considered one of the worst in the world. More to come in an upcoming story for The Washington Post.
