With the first rain in weeks and the warming weather melt

With the first rain in weeks and the warming weather melting the winter's meagre offerings of snow in the mountains, the Kabul River is flowing for the first time in months. Unfortunately, the river is barely a brown stain of its former self; now, its main function is as transporter of the city's waste and rubbish, with residents and workers dumping all manner of filth over the steel railing and into its flow.
