The art project “Maskbook” invites people to design their own masks to raise awareness about air pollution and climate change. The public thereby transforms masks, as symbols for pollution, into a symbol for solutions.
.
The mask featured in this picture, called “2 Degrees Celsius,” is a reference to the central goal of the Paris Climate Change Agreement, which is to keep the global average temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius, and as close as possible to 1.5 degrees.
.
Maskbook has mobilized over 2,500 participants from over 50 countries, with more than 70 workshops organized around the world. People have gathered in countries ranging from Morocco to South Korea, and from China to Ecuador to create their masks.
.
On the occasion of COP23, Maskbook is inviting the public to participate in a large-scale workshop to create their own mask. The event will take place on Sunday 12 November on the Township/MS Beethoven boat, in Bonn, Germany.
