Sitting on top of an altar, decorated with flowers in her hair and jewellery, dressed in a Manila shawl and a white petticoat, surrounded by coloured covers and field flowers that mothers, grandmothers and neighbours had placed to enhance her beauty. There she will lay still without speaking, with a lost look like a goddess to worship and celebrate.’
