A group of actors come on stage to take their bow after performing a play about mental illness in order to create awareness and start open dialogue. In a country like Pakistan mental illness is considered a curse from God and not a serious medical condition. It is reported that possibly 40 percent of the population suffers from some kind of mental illness be it post traumatic stress disorder or depression. It is one of the most serious issues that gets scant attention because of the social stigma at times even amongst the most educated households.
According to a PBS report; Pakistan is a country of 200 million people- For all of them, there are perhaps 500 practicing psychiatrists. In all likelihood, there are more psychiatrists of Pakistani origin working in the United States and great Britain than there are in all of Pakistan.
