A man takes a nap on 130 kg sacks of peanuts on the border between Guinea Bissau and the Casamance region of Senegal. The rains were good this year in Guinea Bissau, but lasted into early November - unusually late. Peanut farmers from Guinea Bissau have brought their fresh, still moist peanut harvests to the border to be taken by minivans to port in Casamance where they will be loaded on boats bound for Dakar where peanuts harvests, an important element in the local diet and in West African cooking, are already dry.
Erratic rains and shifting seasons due to global warming and climate change are affecting food production, food security and commerce in many parts of the world.
