Smoke from the fat of beef and lamb dropping on hot coals

Smoke from the fat of beef and lamb dropping on hot coals filters out across the street and into Shahr-e-Naw park, in central Kabul, as time nears for the breaking of the day's fast, during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Generally, fasting isn't observed by children until they reach puberty, so, in places like Kabul, while men gather around food stalls in the street at dusk for Iftar, many boys will still be plying their trades; washing cars or selling nik-naks as the men fill their empty bellies.
