@Instagram is switching to an algorithm largely based on the popularity of posts. Its robots will be placing posts it “thinks” you will most want to see toward the top of your feed, regardless of the time they were originally shared. Ones it thinks you don’t want to see it may suppress completely. Want to post something different than you usually do, or try an experiment that may not lead to a bunch of quick likes? That post will be buried because it will not be tagged “popular” by the algorithm. Someday soon you will be able to be sure your friends or followers see these kind of posts – for a price. For now your stream will become more and more predictable, with less and less surprises. It will happen slowly, but it is surely moving that way. Most robots will be fine with robots choosing for them, so there is probably no way to win this, but if you want to try any way take a few seconds and sign the petition to stop the switch (link in header).
