The airport terminal at Ishkashim, perhaps the most isolated district capital in Afghanistan. The town of 12,000-odd lies in a valley more than two and a half kilometres above sea-level and marks the beginning of the journey into the mythical Wakhan Corridor - a 300km finger of land that separates Tajikistan and Pakistan and borders China at its most eastern point. I'll be checking out for a few days while driving as far as the road will take us, so no need to send the search party just yet.
