Emily Garthwaite is a 25-year-old London based photojournalist focusing on humanitarian and environmental issues.

She started photography five years ago and she has worked across many countries which led to several exhibitions and international awards.

She recently co-directed her first documentary the 40th Day in Iraq on Arba’een, the world's largest annual pilgrimage. She believes it is a cultural and practical product.

She says: “Surprisingly, Arba’een remains almost unknown to the world, and there continues to be widespread criticism of the media blackout surrounding it.

Also, as a photographer, every photo has a positive narrative for me”. She believes aside the political issues, friendship and collaboration between Iranians and Iraqis are outstanding.
