A young drummer on the second day of Muharram in Tabriz, East Azeribaijan Province, Iran.
In olden times, Drums usually used in battle to alert the public, disorient the enemy and direct troops. In keeping with the nature of these processions mourners usually use drums as a symbol of Muharram mourning and perform poetic recitations wih the beat of drums.
