Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (The Prophet's Mosque) is located in Medina, Saudi Arabia, and is considered the second holiest site in Islam after Masjid al-Haram. This site is not only the resting place of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), but it was also the center for the formation of the early Islamic community.
​Construction History: This mosque was built in the first year of the Hijra (622 CE), immediately following the Prophet's migration from Mecca to Medina, by him and his companions. The original structure was very simple, consisting of mudbricks, clay, and palm tree trunks, and the Prophet's house was attached to it.
