Meteorology is the scientific study of the atmosphere and the processes that drive weather and climate. At its core, it's a physics-and-fluid-dynamics discipline — it treats the atmosphere as a fluid governed by the same laws that describe heat, pressure, moisture, and motion, then uses those laws to explain and forecast phenomena like storms, wind, precipitation, and temperature change.


Meteorologists rely on a mix of tools: satellite and radar data, weather balloons, surface observation networks, and numerical models that solve fluid-dynamics equations on supercomputers to project future atmospheric states. Because the atmosphere is chaotic, the science also has a strong probabilistic side — forecasts are expressed as likelihoods, not certainties, and skill tends to degrade the further out in time you go.
