For her photo project, Nasrin, 17, followed the journey of a displaced Yazidi woman who found herself alone after her husband died, just before she gave birth to his child in a camp for displaced Iraqis near Dohuk. The illiterate woman was devastated, but realised that she needed to recover for the sake of her child. She taught herself how to read and write, and then set up her own business in her camp - a successful salon, seen in the photo above. Fittingly, Nasrin titled the photo story Never Give Up.
As part of our #MENAstories series, this week we're reposting photos taken by a group of Yazidi girls who fled conflict in Sinjar and are now living in a camp near the city of Dohuk. Earlier this year they participated in a UNICEF-supported photography workshop in their camp. The workshop helped create community, build confidence, and empowered the participants to tell their own stories. For more, see @unicef_iraq
