ANNOUNCING THE AFRICAN PHOTOJOURNALISM DATABASE, a joint project of @everydayafrica and @worldpressphoto.

Mohamed, 63, has been a farmer his whole life. On this foggy Cairo morning, he took to the small plot of land he rents and grazed the field manually. Cairo, Egypt, January 2014. --
Photo by Laura El-Tantawy (@laura_eltantawy): “Being part of the Everyday Africa team of photographers is a unique opportunity for me to showcase my pride in my African heritage in an artistic and engaging way. It has also been a way for me to explore my own heritage and reach out directly and instantly to thousands of viewers across the world. It’s a democratic platform that explores Africa beyond the stereotype and the cliche - this is why I appreciate it the most. Viewers are seeing that Africa is not a place of darkness, sickness and death as the continent has traditionally and historically been labelled. It’s a continent full of life and color and Everyday Africa is a contemporary platform celebrating this by challenging old preconceptions. I am proud of my collaboration with African photographers on this platform and can’t wait to see where it goes next.” --
Are you a professional news photographer / photojournalist / documentary photographer working in Africa? In an effort to better connect African news and documentary photographers to the international media economy, World Press Photo and @EverydayAfrica are compiling a database of those reporting on, or telling stories about, cultural, economic, environmental, political and social issues on the continent, sports and nature stories, as well as the ordinary or extraordinary in everyday life. Signing up is easy and free at: http://apjd.org [link on our profile]
